💙 Realizations while Denver was on restricted activity for the past two months 💙
Denver strained his back about 2 months ago. Because of that, he had to be in a kennel, carried around the house, and even ride in a stroller to go potty. It was tough for a very active pup like Denver to be confined in a space, but this unexpected turn of events allowed us to get to know our dogs a bit more intimately during this period.
❤️ Pets are highly sensitive to emotions – While Denver was in his kennel, Jasper, our other furry companion, somehow understood that something was wrong with his big brother. It was heartwarming to witness how Jasper respected Denver’s condition and didn’t initiate rough play or wrestling sessions. Instead, he provided comfort and companionship to Denver during his recovery.
✈️ We are grateful that we took Denver to as many places as possible and will continue to do so. As Denver is turning 8 years old this year, we are aware that his energetic trail-blazing days might need some adjustments. We’ll be more than happy to let him ride in a backpack for a good part of our hikes, ensuring he can still be a part of our adventures despite his back strain.
🆙 We have to put pet ramps to our bed and couches and train them properly to use them. Denver’s back injury made us realize the importance of making our home accessible and safe for our furry companions. Installing pet ramps for our bed and couches will help Denver and Jasper easily join us for some cuddle time, and we’ll work on training them to use the ramps comfortably.
🎾 Each of our dogs has his own needs. While Denver was in his kennel for most of the recovery period, I got to spend more quality time with Jasper. I learned that Jasper loves playing fetch and enjoys meeting new dogs. On the other hand, Denver’s heart lies in playful water hose sessions and chasing after squirrels and ducks. Recognizing their individuality reminds us to tailor activities to fulfill their unique desires and keep them happy and engaged.
🌎💙 We are their world and they are ours. The past two months have deepened our bond with Denver and Jasper. They rely on us for love, care, and support, and in return, they fill our lives with joy, affection, and unwavering companionship. Being reminded of this mutual connection reinforces our commitment to being the best pet parents we can be.
